In the past, you could park in the little lot next to the Coast Guard Station. It was paved in crushed clam shells, a common practice in shore side towns in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, or Cape Cod and the Islands. The lighthouse is surrounded by private property, but if you’re still allowed to park, you take a short walk along a narrow wooded path out to this coastal lighthouse.

Fishermen surf cast to the bay from the rocks. Newlywed couples in wedding attire take a golf car to the light from the nearby luxury hotel at Castle Hill for the sunset. I’ve been to the lighthouse many times. In the quest for photographing local lighthouses, this is low hanging fruit. The view is wonderful, but you won’t be alone. As you near sunset, the wind picks up a little. It’s best to be out before dark, to find your way out through the tunnel of tree cover you navigated towards the beacon. It’s light faces the sea, it won’t help you navigate safe passage to your car.
