Carters at Dawn

Steam Fog along Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, New Hampshire, USA

Rising early, we carried light packs and wore trail runners. It would be a very long hike traversing the Carter range. The pond along the trail at the base of the mountains is warm in August, but the cool mountain air descending into the valley caused steaming fog to rise among the fir trees and brush along the bog bridges. The air was quite still. The world was quiet but for the sound of our steps along the bridges above the mountain laurel and reeds below.
