Eastern Point Lighthouse, Gloucester Massachusetts, USA
Located at the eastern tip of Gloucester Harbor in Massachusetts, this lighthouse vexed me in my efforts to get a worthy image. Known as America’s oldest seaport, the harbor is a busy place. Even with taking a motorcycle for this road trip, I was handicapped in being able to get close to the light. Parking a car close to my prey wasn’t going to happen. My walk down the crowded streets on this weekend morning would have been much longer if I’d been required to find a parking spot for a larger vehicle.
A long breakwater extends from the lighthouse. The lighthouse is operated by the U.S. Coast Guard, and closed to the public. Being unable to score an image from the land adjacent to the light, I stomped along in motorcycle boots to a vantage point far out on the jetty, known as Dog Bar Breakwater. I crouched trying to obtain a more interesting angle. I snapped a few images. I knew this trip was a bust. I would come away with a rather unremarkable image, but was not unhappy. It was an enjoyable road trip, and the weather was a 10. I dropped the Canon into the saddlebag and screwed on my helmet. It was a lovely day for a ride.
