Pursued By The Fashion Police

Daily writing prompt
If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

Scrolling through the prompts, I found this one to be rather humorous, so here’s a go at a bit of satire.

In fact, many people are forced to were the same outfit every day.

  1. Police Officers
  2. Military Personnel
  3. Doctors, nurses, etc.
  4. Company employees.

Even politicians have enacted rules in the U.S. Senate. Called “The SHORTS Act (“SHow Our Respect To the Senate,” it requires business attire, specifying “a coat, tie, and slacks or other long pants” for men.

One Senator stated that for 234 years, senators had assumed there were some “basic written rules of decorum, conduct and civility, one of which was a dress code.”

I’m sure the idea behind company uniforms is to make employees look more professional, and for soldiers to identify officers and their fellow comrades, but politicians? Clearly the dress code hasn’t caused them to follow any rules of conduct, civility or decorum that I have seen in the news, especially in the U.S. House and Senate, and it hasn’t made them appear any more intelligent, if that’s what they were hoping.

None of these clothing choices are really “forced.” You could make a life change and ditch any of the above.

There is only one outfit that I can think of that a person is forced to wear day after day, and would be entirely appropriate for many politicians and is sometimes what they wear when the leave office.

A prison uniform.
