In the pitch dark of the cabin, I searched for the opening in the blinds. The ship was still under way. I did not want to wake my cabin mate, so left the lights off. I slipped into a t-shirt and shorts and found the opening between the curtains. She continued to sleep.
I slid the heavy balcony door left with a deft rotation of the locking handle. Stepping over the raised door frame, I closed the curtains and door behind me. We were moving slowly, parting the sea with gentle waves cresting off the bow. The sun was rising beyond my line of sight off the bow. The glimmer of light revealed land, shrouded in low cloud. We were approaching Sorrento. Was it Capri I was looking at, or Vesuvius? It made no difference. I was happy to sit and watch the world wake up.
“Sorrento is a city and comune overlooking the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy. It is located on the Sorrentine Peninsula, with views of Capri and Vesuvius. -Wikipedia
