Photo Friday: Still Motion

The classic panning shot. I was in Providence searching for images, a little bit of street shooting. (The photography kind, mind you.)

There’s no manipulation here, just an old school pan. Follow an image traveling parallel to your camera, squeezing the shutter release set to a slow speed to hold only the subject sharp, while the world speeds by.

Time it just right and your reward is a still image of a moving subject that communicates motion in a simple but effect way without lots of bells and whistles.

I haven’t tried it with a phone, but I’m inspired to give it a shot if I can get the right app. to pull it off.
