The snow began to fall just after midnight. Not a great deal of precipitation, perhaps 3″. A fine powder, easy to shovel, not the heavy wet snow we usually receive.

This will put the kibosh on the motorcycle for a while. I pulled on my boots instead and took a brisk walk. Without a pack to generate effort, I had to quicken my pace. Temperatures hovered at 21F/-6C, but I was soon warmed to “operating temperature”.

In hindsight, a pair of snowshoes would have made life easier on the rail trail, but it was still a good stretch of the legs.

Rain will come tomorrow and higher temperatures. I expect it will disappear before week’s end.
