Go Go Go

Moynihan Trail Hall, New York, New York, USA

We sit in the corner spaces. Watching the departure board, scrolling phones. Impatient.

The track is announced, we charge to the platform.

We frantically rush to find a seat. We wait again for the train’s movement.

The train slowly builds up speed, barreling down the tracks, only to stop behind a disabled train. We charge to the next stop, conductors calling out stations loudly. Travelers rush to the exits, waiting for the stop. We move on again, repeating the process, over and over…

This reminds me of Euston station in London. There’s always a mass rush to get to the platform once the train is announced as for some reason they like to announce it just a few minutes before departure, especially on the longer trains.

Yes, the same in New York. A long queue is arranged by personnel even before the train is announced for boarding, especially on regional trains running up or down the East Coast. On this day, several had broken down and been cancelled, making many commuters frantic to board and find a seat.
