The Nobska Light

Nobska Lighthouse, Wood’s Hole Cape Cod Massachusetts.

The motorcycle ride out to the lighthouse had worked out perfectly. I arrived not long after sunrise, in the fall season . I could see the ferry leaving Wood’s Hole for Martha’s Vineyard, but I was far from the throng of tourists here. I doubted that any were up this early and still headed out to the island this late in the season.

I had visited this lighthouse years ago on a job assignment on Cape Cod, and knew I would want to return to record an image of the light. It’s been more than a decade since this photo was taken. A drone image would have been spectacular, but my work drone had been long retired by then. Trying to get a landscape of lighthouses can be difficult. The sea is often at your back to capture the structure, or obscured by the landscape at ground level. In this image there’s some distortion due to the Canon fisheye lens, but it was almost always the best option.
