Sunrise came as I neared the beach on my return. I placed the paddle across the gunwales and sat beck to watch it’s rise.

Small birds made their way through the red algae on the beach, picking out breakfast. A gull shrieked overheard, flying in the direction of the coming light of day.

I did nothing for a few minutes, letting the current push me back towards the beach.

Finally, I dipped the paddle back into the salt water of the river, one side then the other, making my way back to a day’s worth of work waiting on the shore.
